Buyer clients often ask about restaurant recommendations, so they can celebrate the purchase of their home and get to know their new neighbourhood. Celebrate is the key word in this crazy seller’s market. I was recently working with a first-time buyer couple and they made about a dozen unsuccessful offers mostly in the Corso Italia neighbourhood. Over the course of several weeks, the usual drill was this: Show up at the property at 5:30 or 6:30, sit in the car and wait to make their offer presentation, go back to the car and wait. Maybe get a second chance to improve our offer. Maybe not. Then wait some more, only to be told the sellers went with a crazy, more lucrative offer. After a 2-3 hour wait, I was usually more than hungry and disappointed, so I headed to my old standby: Frank’s Pizza House on St. Clair West. Not to celebrate, but in search of comfort food and a glass of wine. Homemade, comfort food – Italian-style. Giorgio, the owner, was always there to commiserate and to provide delicious sustenance.

Frank’s Pizza House has been a Corso Italia family-run legend since 1965. Everything is made to order, including the pasta. Their menu is straight-forward: collection of appetisers including bruschetta, crispy calamari, salmone carpaccio, and a trio of salads. Pizza is the star here. Each offering is numbered from 1-19. Some of the stars are the classic Margherita, Quattro Stagioni, Vegetariana, and a heavenly white pizza called Angelique. My fav is #11. If you’re hungry for pasta, it’s made on the premises: Gnocchi della Nonna, Linguine Pescatore, Penne con Pollo, and Matrimony, a traditional Italian wedding dish, half tortellini in a cream sauce and half penne in a tomato sauce. If it’s a quick lunch, don’t miss their calzones: pizza dough pockets (baked or deep-fried) and stuffed with regular and gourmet traditional toppings. Each one can be your own custom culinary delight. I recommend the dipping sauce for a complete experience and an espresso for a finale.
Your first visit won’t be your last.

Buon Appetito
