Things to do in York Region

As it encompasses such a large area, there are a variety of attractions and different lifestyle opportunities in York Region. Plenty of highly-sought after family-friendly neighbourhoods are located in the area, like Woodbridge, Maple, and Thornhill in Vaughan, and Richvale in Richmond Hill. In Markham, couples with children often choose to settle in Markham Village and Angus Glen. In these areas, there are plenty of golf courses, parks, recreation centres, and arenas.

Vaughan is a multicultural city with plenty of shops and restaurants catering to the local clientele. Canada’s largest theme park, Canada’s Wonderland is located in Vaughan, as well as Canada’s largest publicly-funded art gallery, McMichael Canadian Art Collection. This gallery exclusively exhibits Canadian and Indigenous art. Nature lovers will appreciate the Humber Valley that cuts through the area, providing a serene opportunity to enjoy nature in the city.

Richmond Hill is a favourite place for many who love a quieter lifestyle with picturesque surroundings. Situated upon the gorgeous Oak Ridges, this area is blessed with plenty of forested land, lakes, and wide open green spaces. Further north is where you’ll find more suburban communities including Newmarket and Aurora. Northern York Region is also where rural communities of King, Whitchurch-Stouffville, East Gwillimbury, and Georgina are located. These areas feature lush topography and are highly agricultural. Situated on the southern shores of Lake Simcoe, Georgina is a popular spot for cottagers and vacationers alike.

As York Region is home to many families, things like schools, professional offices, and grocers are never far away. Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill are serviced by the TTC and GO Train, as well as Highways 400, 407, 404, and 7 for easy commuting to Toronto and the rest of the GTA.
